Emergency Plumbing Help for Houston Homeowners

Request an estimate

A plumbing emergency is any leak, burst, backup or heater failure that damages your home while you wait. Noreviews Plumbing is a referral service. We point Houston homeowners to independent local providers who handle urgent plumbing problems.

Providers do the work. They set their own prices and schedules. We do not send crews or hire anyone. What we do is cut down the searching, so you can reach a provider while the problem is still small.

This site also gives plain tips for the first few minutes, from shutting off the water to knowing what a fair quote looks like. Then we encourage you to get the price in writing and compare quotes before you agree to anything. Your request is sent with no obligation, and the final deal is always between you and the provider.

Water Is Moving? Start Here

If water is spraying, pooling or climbing, stop it first. Then look for help. Every minute spent hunting for a name is a minute the water keeps working on your floors.

This page covers what to do, what it may cost and how to keep the bill fair. Read the first few sections now. Save the rest for later.

Shut Off the Water Before Anything Else

Find your main shutoff valve. In many slab-on-grade ranch homes it sits near the water heater, on a front wall or by the meter outside. Turn it clockwise until it stops.

If only one fixture is leaking, use the small valve under the sink or behind the toilet. Then open a faucet on the bottom floor of the house to drain the lines.

If water is near outlets or the panel, stay away. Turn off power only if you can reach the breaker without stepping in water.

What Counts as a Plumbing Emergency

Some problems can wait for a weekday visit. Others cannot. Treat these as urgent:

  • A burst or split pipe that keeps flowing
  • Sewage coming up through floor drains or tubs
  • A water heater leaking from the tank or hissing loudly
  • No water at all, with no clear cause
  • A gas smell near a gas water heater (leave the home and contact your gas utility first)

A slow drip under a sink is usually not an emergency. Shut the small valve, put a bowl under it and plan a normal visit.

Why Acting Early Protects Your Budget

Water spreads fast in a warm, humid home. Wet drywall and flooring can grow mold in a short time, and our summers make that worse.

A pipe repair may cost a few hundred dollars. Drying out walls and replacing floors can cost many times more. That is the whole reason to move quickly: small problem first.

What an Emergency Plumber Does

A provider in our network will find the source, stop the leak and fix what is failing. That may mean replacing a short section of pipe, a valve, a supply line or a water heater part.

Many providers can respond quickly, but availability varies. Request a callback to check provider availability, or use the request form instead.

Burst Pipes in Hot, Wet Weather

Freezes are rare here, but they happen. A hard freeze can split exposed pipes in an attic, crawl space or outside wall. Pier-and-beam houses have more pipe exposed underneath.

Heat and heavy rain cause trouble too. Shifting soil after downpours can stress buried lines. Hot attics can age supply lines and fittings until they crack.

Water Heater Emergencies

A tank that leaks from the bottom is usually done. Shut off the cold water going in and turn the heater off. Do not try to patch a leaking tank.

No hot water is often a smaller fix, like a heating element or thermostat. Ask the provider whether repair or replacement makes more sense for your tank's age.

Backups and Blocked Pipes

If several drains gurgle or back up at once, the problem may be deeper in the line. Stop running water and flushing. Blocked pipe services and drain work have their own page, but a backup that floods living space is an emergency.

What Drives the Price

Several things move the number up or down:

  • Access: A pipe in an open crawl space is easier than one inside a finished wall.
  • Parts: A standard valve costs less than a specialty fitting.
  • Timing: Evening and weekend visits often carry a higher rate.
  • Damage: Larger repairs take more labor and materials.

Ask how the provider charges: flat rate or hourly. Ask what the trip fee is and whether it applies toward the repair.

Get It in Writing

Ask for a written quote before work starts. It should list the problem, the fix, parts and labor. Be wary of a price that changes with no explanation.

If you have time, compare two quotes. If water is still flowing, stop the leak first, then compare. A fair provider will not mind the questions.

How Noreviews Plumbing Fits In

Noreviews Plumbing is a referral service. Your request goes to an independent local provider in our network. We do not do plumbing, we do not set prices and we are not on your job site.

Providers do the work. You agree to the price and terms with them directly.

After the Repair

Take photos of the damage and the repair. Keep the invoice. Some policies may cover sudden damage, so check your policy. Providers can often help document damage for a claim.

Ask if the work has a written warranty from the provider. Learn where your shutoff valve is and test it once a year.

How much does an emergency plumber cost?

It varies by job. Many visits start with a trip fee of about $75 to $250, and repairs add parts and labor. Ask for a written quote before work begins.
